News Update - October
Well, the season of mists and mellow fruitfulness* is well and truly upon us so I thought I’d do a little October/November update of where I am in my writing life and in my life in general.
Getting Away for a Few Days
Like most people this year, we have foregone a holiday abroad and instead chosen to have a staycation closer to home. So, last weekend my hubby and I spent a couple of delightful, if somewhat rainy, days in the midst of the Cotswolds. Our quaint B&B was perfectly located on a river in the middle of nowhere. We took in picturesque oldy-worldy villages and towns such as Burford, Stow-on-the-Wold, Northleach (home to Kurtan & Kerry Mucklowe in This Country - my husband's favourite show) and Bourton-on-the-water - complete with a model village, within a model village, within a model village, genius.
We stopped for lunch in Oxford, a place I’d always wanted to go, being the home of academia, dreaming spires and punting on the River Thames. Despite the rain, the horrendous traffic and the elusive car parks we did have a nice walk and a jolly tasty Thai lunch in a traditional Victorian shopping arcade.
As is our wont, we also managed to take in three National Trust properties, Basildon House (which wasn’t actually open), Snowshill House (which was only half-open) and a Roman Villa which was fully open to the drizzly elements! I am partial to a bit of history and period architecture, and although I still very much enjoyed our visits, I do look forward to the time they can open up and we can enjoy them in their entirety.
Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety-jig
I now have a couple of days off before I have to go back to work so thought I’d spend some time catching up on my blog and crack on with editing my novel. However, as usual, I have already procrastinated one day away by doing the housework and reading so many Facebook posts on writing, editing and marketing, I feel my head may explode with the sheer amount of information and advice out there. So much to do and so little idea of where to start and what to do next.
I fear I may rabbit on about this for a while so I think I’ll write a separate post about it. I’ll say ta ta for now and see you in my next post!
*Ode To Autumn, John Keats (my absolute favouritist Romantic poet) (and yes that is a real word).
