May Day, May Day!
We made it to May, not that you’d know it with the weather. It’s pretty much rained every day since May Day and it’s looking like we won’t be casting our clouts until this May is out.
Personal Biz - Ode to Cornwall
In my April update, I mentioned we were heading off to Cornwall for a few days and so we did and had a wonderfully relaxing time. We hired a big shiny American Airstream through AirBnB, which stood in a field close to the middle of nowhere. It was just what we needed, beautiful countryside, craggy beaches and Cornish ice cream, even the sun came out for a few days, who could ask for more? Time away with a chance to read, explore and chill out in our hot tub under the stars. I was even inspired to write some poetry about this beautiful county, currently still a work in progress, if I ever finish it I'll upload it here.
Book Biz - Book covers & becoming an official Amazonian
As for book news, there’s not much to report. My book cover designer has already come up with some fabulous designs. I’m not sure they’re quite right for my book just yet, but with a few tweaks, I’m hopeful they soon will be. I’m one of those annoying clients, who want something specific but don’t know what it is, otherwise known as every designer’s nightmare. But, we’ll get there.
I’ve also set up my Amazon account so it’s ready to go as soon as my cover is sorted. It wasn’t the easiest of tasks. I was hoping to set up my Author Profile ahead of time, but after plodding all around the Amazon houses, I’ve come to the conclusion that this can’t be set up until a book has been uploaded. I did however set up my international bank account for when the moula comes rolling in.
That was pretty straight forward although I did find myself down some kind of tax wormhole when I tried to find out about paying taxes on indie book earnings. From what I can gather you don’t have to pay tax until your earnings are over £1000 so I’ll worry about that if I’m lucky enough to reach that sum. I have filled in the Tax Interview form on my Amazon account though so hopefully HMRC won't come knocking on my door any time soon.
OK, it hasn't been the most productive month but it is one step nearer!
