The Short Book Reviews

Reading Habits

I’m not the fastest of readers. I don’t like to skim read. I like to take my time over every page, get to know the characters and delve deep into the story. I’m also not a very prolific reader and don’t always find time in the day to get my nose stuck in a book, it’s more like 20 minutes at lunchtime, or 10 minutes before bed. I’d love to be one of those people who have time to curl up in an armchair for a whole afternoon, but my skittish brain is always telling me I have something more useful or practical to do.

My absolute favourite time to read is on holiday when I load up my Kobo, throw a few paperbacks in my case and lie by the beach or round the pool reading for hours. No work, no chores, just uninterrupted reading pleasure. But sadly these reading binges are few and far between, and I feel, as a wannabe writer I should be reading more, and dammit I do want to read more!

A Reason to Read

To this end I signed up with the Rakuten Kobo Audiobook subscription scheme where I can download any Audiobook for one credit a month, which means I can listen to books while I’m driving to work, taking a walk or even making dinner. A time usually reserved for listening to podcasts or my favourite tunes. I have bought Audio Books in the past, but with the subscription method, I am almost 'forced' to download a book every month. I know I pay the DD payment but when my Kobo account tells me I can have a credit waiting for me it’s like being in a sweetie shop, so many books to choose from!

My plans are also to diversify my reading habits. Read book genres that I don’t usually pick up, from authors I don’t know, Indie authors and traditional authors. Classic reads and brand spanking new top seller books. For every book I finish, be it audio or actual pages, I will endeavour to leave a short and honest review. This will inspire me to read more, to perhaps consider the books in more depth and may even encourage you peeps out there to read something that wouldn’t usually be on your reading list.

My first review coming soon is And Away the autobiography of Bob Mortimer...
