Podding in Shropshire

Podding in ShropshireWe’ve been away, hoorah! We planned a few days away to travel ‘up country’ to see my family who, (like most people) I haven’t been able to see, let alone hug, for over 12 months. And it was so very lovely to see them. And also so very lovely and hot which hardly ever happens when I take time off, well not in England anyway.

We travelled up to Ironbridge in beautiful green Shropshire, where the hubster and I holed up in a glamping pod for two nights, which was perfectly serene and peaceful. Even the mahoosive mozzie bite (the approximate size of a side plate) on my leg, did not hinder my enjoyment of the setting and the quaint surroundings of Ironbridge itself.

Sightseeing in York

Sightseeing in YorkWe then had 3 days in Ye Olde Town of York, where we met up with my folks and did a zillion and 1 fun things. The itinerary including a bus tour, a boat tour, a Ghost tour, Viking Museum, Railway Museum, Dick Turpin's grave, Guy Fawkes pub and of course plenty of cocktails and ice creams. It’s pretty safe to say we now know every corner of York, a trip I highly recommend for fascinating history and general sightseeingness.

I took plenty of pictures during my stay, but as I am pretty slack at Instagramming, I plan to set up an Insta scheduling program so I can get them all programmed in at once. I will report how successful this is for me in my next update.

Author Update Bits

Socials

Speaking of Social Medias and all things Author Platform, the hubster took the opportunity to carry out a bit of drone filming over our glamping pod and down to the river. We decided to practice a few ‘look-at-me-being-an-author-and-writing-a-novel-sitting-on-a-tree-stump’ arty shots, which didn’t come out quite as arty as I imagined and just looks like me sitting on a tree stump pretending to type on my laptop. If I ever work out how to upload it to Insta I will attach a link so you can have a giggle.

Edits

As I mentioned in my June update, I was considering obtaining some quotes for a Proofreader. This I duly did through Reedsy, and I had two responses from editors that work with my genre and were able to offer what I was looking for. I have now selected one of these, mainly because she likes stories set around the 2000s, but also because of her reasonable price. She sent me a small sample of her work and I like her style and how she works. We’re currently in the process of setting up the exchange, so I will talk about how this goes next month.

Covers

Well, the good news is I think I’m almost there with my cover design! I went with the image I mentioned last month which I’d been carrying around with me since the beginning of time. My Cover Designer added the lettering, formatted the text and gave me some options of colour. I put the various images out on a romance writer’s Facebook page and it got a pleasing amount of favourable responses.
